Our own World Ski Championship – this is really something special! We are all greatly looking forward
to hosting the 2011 FIS Alpine World Ski Championship. After more than 30 years since the 1978 World Ski Championship, it again is being hosted by Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in direct neighbourhood, within only 6 km distance to our Zugspitze Village of Grainau. It has returned. To Mount Guidberg and to the worldfamous Kandahar ski run.
The last time that this event was held here we were fascinated by ski idols, such as Maria Epple and Sepp Ferstl – who won the Gold and Silver Medals. Who will be in the lead in 2011: in the downhill competition, Super-G, giant slalom or slalom? We will know more in the winter of 2011!
At present, the preparations are being carried out at full speed. Of course, we are striving to provide the perfect setting for all the visitors and athletes in order to render all the ski events as impressive as possible and to assure that the competitions will create a very special atmosphere.
We are looking forward to the guests arriving from all over the word, the athletes, and, last but not least, to all of the exciting competitions.
You can already feel the atmosphere of the World Championships when you enter Grainau, Garmisch-Partenkrichen and in the complete Zugspitz region where square rock basket columns have huge posters plastered all around of the great event. And at Richard-Strauss square, where the World Championship countdown clock is ticking. The event is coming soon – we are looking forward to it!
