Whether relaxed by train, fast by car, comfortable by bus or very fast by plane - there are many ways to the Zugspitzdorf Grainau. As soon as you see the mountains, your holiday begins.
Take the "A95 Autobahn" (freeway) from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and then Grainau.
Or take the B17 road from Augsburg to Schongau and continue on the B23
in the direction of Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen and then Grainau.
Or take the Ulm-Kempten "A7 Autobahn" (freeway) south towards Innsbruck, Austria; continue towards Reutte and Ehrwald, Austria; then, just before Ehrwald, turn left toward Grainau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
If you are coming from the south, you can reach Grainau via the Brenner. Drive toward Innsbruck, and then past Innsbruck toward Zirl, Seefeld, Mittenwald and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then to Grainau.
You will find excellent train service to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and from there to Grainau, from almost any major city in Germany. Once in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you can get to Grainau the cogwheel train or a white-blue bus EIBSEE-Bus. If you come after 20:00 (8:00 PM), you can find a taxi at the train station in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (approx. EUR 20 to Grainau).
Comfortable ICE trains, IC trains or EC trains generally travel to or from Munich's main station, München Hbf, from almost any direction at intervals of one or two hours. From here, train service to Garmisch-Partenkirchen is generally available at hourly intervals.
Some trains stop at Munich-Pasing in addition to Munich main station. You might prefer to transfer in Pasing since the distances between the platforms are generally shorter here.

Land at Munich-Airport in the town of Erding, which is approx. 125 km (78 miles) from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Either you can pick up your rental car here or you can take an MVV city train to Munich's main station, Hbf München, or to the smaller station, München-Pasing (transfer distances are generally shorter here). From there you can take a train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (hourly intervals) and then continue on to Grainau by train, bus or taxi.
Or you can fly to the Innsbruck-Airport in Austria instead, which is approx. 65 km (41 miles) from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Here you can pick up your rental car or continue by train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and then by taxi, train or bus to Grainau.
The buses in and to Garmisch-Partenkirchen stop directly in front of the station. You have the possibility to continue with the rack railway or the local bus. The Flix bus line 040 runs eight times a day directly from and to Munich and Innsbruck. There are also connections to and from Munich Airport five times a day.
Tickets for trips from/to Munich are available from 6 €, for trips from/to Innsbruck from 5 €. At the Munich ZOB you also have access to numerous other Flixbus direct connections from all over Germany. You can therefore travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen from many German cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Nuremberg, Würzburg, Stuttgart with just one change.
