Oberammergau
Wood carvings and frescoes
Oberammergau is an idyllic place in the Bavarian Alps. The village is famous for the ancient tradition of the “Passionsspiele”, which have taken place every ten years since 1634 illustrating the life of Jesus Christ. But it is also worth a visit due to the rich history in wood carvings and the unique frescoes featured on many houses.
The Pilatus House has frescoes by Franz Seraph Zwinck. The Kölblhaus has a flat saddle roof and a façade also painted by Zwinck. The Oberammergau Museum exhibits woodc arvings by artists from the region.
