Right at the foot of the Zugspitze

At an altitude of almost 1000m, nestled in a beautiful rocky landscape, lies the deep blue shimmering Eibsee. The Eibsee was formed by a huge landslide around 4000 years ago and has seven islands.

The Eibsee is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Upper Bavaria, and not without good reason. A footpath takes you around the lake for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. The Eibsee Hotel and its lakeside restaurant and kiosk are located directly on the shore. The Zugspitzbahn railroad station and the station of the new Zugspitze cable car are just above the lake.

In the summer months, the average water temperature is approx. 17°. A big one, Paid parking lot is located directly on the lake.

Please observe the following simple rules for the sake of the environment and the locals:

  • Motorboats and electric boats are prohibited!
  • Camping or staying overnight at the private lake is strictly prohibited!
  • Please take your garbage home with you!
  • Dogs must be kept on a lead and water is prohibited!
  • Please be considerate of the flora and fauna around the lake!

There is a small lido with a kiosk and boat hire on the southern side. The water temperature in summer is up to 24° C, making it a popular bathing lake.

Directly on the lake is also the Lake restaurant Rießersee. From there you can enjoy a unique view of the Waxensteine and the Zugspitze.

The bathing lake under the King's Stand

The Pflegersee is located approx. 2 km from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and approx. 11 km from Grainau. In the Middle Ages, it provided the water supply for the nearby Werdenfels castle ruins and has been a popular excursion destination since the 1930s.

On the north bank is the Pflegersee mountain inn and on the eastern bank is the lido with a kiosk and rowing boat hire.

The water temperature is between 18° and 22° in the summer months. The Pflegersee is a popular small bathing lake, especially among locals.

The small village of Gerold lies between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald. A dirt track leads to the beautifully situated moorland lake Geroldsee. From there you can enjoy a unique view of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains.

As the "Gerolder" is a moorland lake, pleasant water temperatures of up to 24°C are possible in summer.

Murnau's largest lake

A popular bathing lake with mild, boggy water that warms up quickly due to the lake's hollow location. A circular hiking trail with a length of 22 km leads around the Staffelsee. Rowing and pedal boats can be hired during the summer months, and fishing is possible from mid-May to mid-October. Between the neighboring communities of Murnau, Seehausen a.Staffelsee and Uffing, the Passenger ship MS Seehausen. In Murnau you will find the Staffelsee outdoor pool directly on the lake and in Uffing the municipal lido.
