Sporty, ambitious guests can enjoy the varied landscape around Grainau and the Zugspitze on a variety of trails. The route network combines valley paths, forest trails and alpine sections of varying distances and levels of difficulty.

Prerequisites

Trail running requires regular running experience and confidence on changing surfaces. Beginners should choose a moderate pace and make sure they are evenly paced.

Careful tour planning is essential. Find out in advance about the route, altitude and current weather and storm warnings.

The tours range from
8 to 43 kilometers and
200 to 2,000 vertical meters.

Grainau lies at the foot of the Zugspitze and offers ideal conditions for trail running in alpine surroundings. The network of trails ranges from flat valley loops to challenging mountain trails with several hundred meters of elevation gain.

The varied landscape - forests, alpine paths, mountain trails and riverside paths - enables training sessions for different ability levels.


Route character

Valley and lake tours
Around the Eibsee and in the Zugspitz region there are good natural trails with a moderate profile. Suitable for beginners, regeneration units or speed training.

Medium mountain trails
In the area Waxenstein and Höllental, narrow paths lead through forest and meadow terrain. Here, climbs, technical sections and scenic passages alternate.

Alpine challenges
Ambitious trail runners will find steep climbs, challenging downhills and longer altitude passages around the Zugspitze massif.
