  • Route length:53,3 km
  • Highest point: m
  • Altitude uphill:761 m
  • Duration:2.5 Std
From Garmisch-Partenkirchen first take the secret paths, and then the cycle track along the state road B2 uphill to Gerold. If you prefer a quieter route, you should take the steeper way via the "Alte Gsteig". As soon as you have passed the highest point, the upper Isar valley stretches out in front of you. Through meadows and past lakes inviting you to take a swim, explore the villages of Krün and Wallgau. Along the green-blue Isar River cycle along the foot of the Karwendel Mountains to the centre of Mittenwald. Here, you should take a longer break and visit the museum for violin-making or stroll through the beautiful pedestrian precinct. The following section of the trail is a little steeper and runs along a busy street for a short while. Starting at the bumpy meadows, the terrain is more level and as soon as you have passed Klais, you can coast downhill without any effort. The last leg of the tour takes you back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the direct track along the state road B2.

At the station turn right and cross the taxi stand to Lagerhausstraße. This street leads into Gehfeldstraße. After ca. 200 m, the road forks. Ensure that you keep right. At the end of Kochelbergstraße you will cross the railway tracks and turn left. Ride along the tracks and go to the skiing stadium. From there take Wildenauer Straße until you come to Hauptstraße. If you prefer the less steep option, cross the street and follow the cycle track. Otherwise, cross the street and ride via the opposite path along the river to Mittenwalder Straße. Turn right and then right again onto Dr.-Wigger-Straße. Follow the street uphill to the junction. Here, take Gsteigstraße to the left. At the mountain restaurant "Schöne Aussicht" you can take a breather with a view of the ski jump. At the next intersection, go downhill to the right towards the cycle path along the street. If you prefer a quieter option again, go uphill to the left (just a short bit), turn right twice, and go past the Höflebauer guest house and across the meadows until an opening in the fence on the right hand side of the path leads you the way to Kaltenbrunn. Here, you will go downhill through the spruce forest to the cycle track along the state road B2. Behind the mountain restaurant "Zum Schweizerbartl" switch to the other side of the street through an underpass. From here the track is nearly level. The fields on your right are a popular area for cross-country skiing in the winter. After a few kilometres sign points you to Gerold. Cycle through another underpass and then uphill for a little while. Leaving Gerold behind you, follow the cycle track along the B2 via Klais to the district Barmsee. Uponn leaving Barmsee, just behind a bridge, turn left. At the next bridge, turn right and cycle past the Maximilianshof towards Wallgau. In Wallgau, get back on the cycle track, riding along the state road through Krün, and leading into the signposted track to Mittenwald. From the village centre at the church cycle through the "Gries" to the Gröblweg. Now, the way goes steeply uphill, past the mountain restaurant Gröbl-Alm to the next turnoff. Here, you will take the downhill street until you meet the road to Klais. Turn left, cycle on to the lake Schmalensee and along its right bank through the natural bumpy meadows. Here the track splits up. Ensure to keep left in the direction of Klais. For the last section of your tour, take the way you came. Follow the way via Gerold and Kaltenbrunn along the B2 to the town limits of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then turn left onto Wildenauer Straße. A few minutes later you will arrive back at the train station.
