Climbing & Hiking

Up & down

Around Grainau, a large selection of hiking trails and mountain tours awaits you, over which you can explore our magnificent mountain world.

From easy hikes for the whole family to challenging via ferrata, everyone will find their personal summit happiness here.
Your summit exploration is supported by various mountain railroads.

Geological hike through Grainau

The landscape around Grainau offers a wide range of geological sights. Take your time and explore the landscape of our village, which was shaped by the landslide. Certainly this represented an inferno at that time. You can still see the effects of the overburdening of hills of rock masses.

Flurnamenweg

If you want to understand things, you first have to name them. This is exactly what our ancestors did when they gave names to the fields. Thus, field names are "eloquent witnesses of old and oldest folklore", as Hans Holzner describes it in his collection of field names in Grainau. The importance of such names in former times may be shown by the fact that there has been an exact land register with field names only since about 1820.

Climate & Water in Change

On the theme trail "Climate & Water in Transition" you will discover the different effects of climate change up close at 10 stations. Observe the reaction of plants to higher temperatures, track the retreat of the Zugspitze glaciers, learn why climate change makes bark beetles happy but stresses spruce trees, experience the power of nature and much more. In between, however, there is also enough time for relaxation: treat yourself to a breather on the relaxation loungers at the sunny Höhenrain.
And as a great extra: The web app for the trail.

With the Lauschtour app, you can discover the theme trail in a particularly exciting, personal way! Let scientists and people from the region bring you closer to the visible traces of climate change in the Alps. Simply download the app with your smartphone, call it up, start hiking and listen.
Here you will find the matching brochure for each theme trail:
