Long sections of the well-marked cycle tracks lead you along the Isar River, whose ice blue waters look quite spectacular. Numerous benches along the riverbank invite you to take breaks. At the Riedboden before Mittenwald a huge sea of flowers awaits you. Older children can manage this tour too, and should their power leave them, you can still take the train back from Klais.
Of course, cyclists with a lot of stamina can complete the tour in both directions. Along the way you have various options for detours.

You will start cycling in the centre of Scharnitz and turn right on Hauptstraße in the direction of the former German border. Behind the kiosk and antique shop turn left and enter the nature reserve Riedboden across the bridge over the Isar River. On well-marked cycle tracks, a gravel path leads you through coniferous woodland and meadows. Having passed the sports facilities in the Ried with their tennis court and playground, turn right on the Isar Bridge and you will soon enter Mittenwald. In front of the bridge turn right and follow the street across the railway tracks. Slightly downhill you will approach the Haus Döring, in front of which you will meet the cycle track. Along the Isar River, go straight on the signposted cycle track in the direction of Klais/Krün. Uponn reaching the barracks, the street approaches a flyover in a bend to the left. Slightly uphill, the cycle track runs along the right hand side of the state road for a few kilometres. Switch to the other side of the road, and go on the uphill/downhill track to Krün, and then on to Klais. Here, you will cross the street at the railway crossing and turn right towards the train station. Alongside the tracks, cycle through meadows that are very popular with cross-country skiers in the winter. You will pass Gerold and take the cycle track on the right hand side, and then on the left hand side of the state road to Kaltenbrunn. Here, you will change to the other side of the street for the last time. A long downhill section takes you towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Just behind the place name sign turn left onto Wildenauer Straße. Behind the railway tracks stay on the left of the tracks until you reach the crossing. Turn right onto Kochelbergstraße, until you meet Gehfeldstraße. Ca. 50 m later you will reach the Garmisch-Partenkirchen train station via Lagerhausstraße.
